Convivial Commons Assemblies are experimental workshops and participatory assemblies that invite people to engage in collective decision-making through artistic experimentation. The assemblies explore how democratic processes might be reimagined by bringing human and non-human perspectives into the same deliberative space.
Convivial Commons is a project developed at ZK/U – Center for Art and Urbanistics in Berlin. The project is developed within EMCCINNO , a European initiative supporting cultural and creative organisations in their transition toward greater social and ecological sustainability. Through artistic practice, collaboration, and experimentation, EMCCINNO enables local initiatives to explore and prototype new approaches to creating meaningful social and ecological impact.
The first assembly, called Radical Democracy, invited participants to develop and propose ideas for a future summer festival. The human proposals were then brought into dialogue with the five non-human characters, who responded to, advised on, and deliberated around the proposals. My work for Radical Democracy revolved around working on the spatial design adaptation of the installation and its production, prompt design for the characters, as well as the "dramaturgy" of the assembly: its content from a social design point of view.
